My Amateur video review of the TC4400 by HP. It’s old but what the hey, It can still speed through video encoding among the best of them.

@MammaleousMaximus – Dance of death, Lincoln Child Douglas Preston. It’s part of an on-going series. Really good.

@amazingcomputerguy Ah, I figured it out, but I sold the tablet. The XP drivers worked for automatic rotation, so give it a shot.

@rminb010204 Not sure if I responded yet and if not I’m sorry about the delay. There is not rotate like there was on XP because HP officially does not support Windows 7 on the TC4x00 “YET”. If you right click or hold the pen on the desktop and go to graphic options you can change the orientation. If you want to you can add graphic options to the notifications area for quick changes.

@rminb010204 This is improved greatly with Windows 7. trust me. I know.

@ianhus Nope, no batteries needed. There’s a material that recognizes the pen on the screen. Even has pressure sensitive capabilities.

hey dude!!! i have a question: does the digital pen (the stylus)for tc4400 has bateries or not? thx

I have never used a TC4200 before so I don’t know how it will perform. It’s using the Pentium M chip, which is slower than the Core/2/Duo, and some of the hardware differs like ram speed and chipset. It may under perform some present day tasks, like one note 2007, which is a hog to run. I think the price is GREAT but priced right for an older system. I don’t know what your budget is but my opinion is to look for something a little newer. GO Refurbished. Great deals there.

I was wondering if you would recommend a TC4200 to someone who will just be using it for general school note taking, writing and web browsing. The reason I ask is because I recently found an off-lease/refurbished one for $299 shipped and just wondered if it was a good deal

Hey everyone, who is watching this, I recommend buy the TC4200 digitizer if you ever need to replace yours. This is my 3rd pen replacement and it came from a TC4200 and it is MUCH more sturdy. I would buy that over the TC4400 version, which is very flimsy.

The only thing I do hate about this laptop is the handwriting rec. it doesn’t get any of my handwriting. But no when my girlfriend comes she can write out a whole page and it understands every letter. Damn my male handwriting >: /

Too technical of a term for most I guess. PCI expantion is what most would recognize it as. Man you are missing a good deal. It’s really cheap if you can find one. Get refurbished, much cheaper and just as good IMHO. I’m still using my refurbished TC4400 you see in the video. It’s been 3 years now, no problems.

I use Windows 7 too, it’s really great. Try going to support page in HP’s site and get the drivers to support the soft buttons and stuff. All it needs is the HP tablet software for it to do that.

    • Veronica

Yeah I love it, just got windows 7 I only have one problem where it doesn’t automatically rotate to portrait when I flip the screen into tablet mode. You have any ideas?

Opps…lol. Well it’s a great tablet. I’m still using it since I made this video. Been a great little machine.

Just traded my iPod for one, great deal. The guy wasn’t very smart though; left all his tax information on it… Social Security, banking, everything! lol.

it’s a pcmcia slot not a pci slot. thanks for the review. kinda expensive for me though :(

I guess I babied myself with the X41. Someone who uses the subway everyday though would really know the difference in the weight specially if you’re taking the NYC subway system. It’s always a hellhole with all the pushing, etc. Plus, I do carry a lot of stuffs so a little bit of tweak in the weight, at least for me, would be noticeable. Yes, the tab is blazing fast now.D heat diminished considerably with the upgrade. Guess, less work inside.Xtended bat is $105, +6 hours + reg bat=8hrs. Nice.

I need to dust it out TBH. Since I’ve had it I’ve never dusted it. That should decrease the heat. Cheap Batt, I would look on HP’s site but don’t think you will find anything cheaper though.

Wow, good deal considering what I paid for it. I have a swiss army back pack with a laptop pocket. I don’t really notice it in there unless I have a lot of books or don’t carry it with me. If you think about it, what’s .9 lbs really? Looks to me like you have quite the sweet tablet. Mine is only hot after a long run.

    • Delores

Hi, paid $500 for this tablet(ebay) with warranty til 9/09.Took advantage of post TG sale at newegg and got the ram to 4gb(crucial-$51)for a possible update to Vista, & d HD to 7200rpm 3.0 seek/sec 250 GB(seagate-$79). I think my only complaint is that I got so used to x41 (which sucks big time due to the max 1.5gb of ram and 1.8″ HD) as to the weight. It’s quite heavy on my back (4.6 lbs vs 3.7 on X41).Does it really become hot to touch? Where do u find cheap batteries/charger for this?TNX

I really appreciate your comments/views. It has been valuable for making me research more since I’m a newbie with tablets. As I write this, someone just posted Toshiba M400 at a low price of $450, intel dual core 2.2 Ghz, 60 GB 5400rpm HD, 2 GB RAM upgradeable to 4GB with manufaturer’s warranty still for 8 months. I know u mentioned issue of screen not sturdy as HP. I guess these specs would leave < 4 me 2 bring out more $ from my wallet.Hope I’m jumping on safe waters. Final thoughts?
